Ms. Jonah De Lumen
Advocacy Director
Advocacy director of Bayan-anihan and a former global brand manager of Unilever in Manila and New York for eight years, joined GK more than a year ago because she wanted to be involved in the fight against poverty. And she felt GK was the perfect organization to pursue her worthwhile cause.
De Lumen acknowledged she was enjoying the best of the corporate world—working with the global conglomerate, going on travels to major cities such as London, and receiving the juicy rewards of the job. However, one day she felt she had already reached the peak of her zeal in working in the corporate arena. The excitement was gone, as far she is concerned.
De Lumen’s move surprised a lot of people because they felt she was demoting herself and sacrificing her career progression. But before making the big leap, de Lumen said she made it a point to save a decent amount of money
De Lumen admitted there are trade-offs such as the perks of the job, the various travels and the financial incentives. But there are no regrets for this young lady, whose passion is to serve those at the bottom of the social ladder. “Joining GK was a humbling experience and, at the same time, an enriching process. Leveling with the people gives you the perspective of being relevant to others,” she said
